Youth Ministry Director
Bro. Sheldon Smith was born in Wichita, Kansas and he was raised in Augusta, KS. Growing up, he was not interested in going to church unless his mom forced him to go. Yet, God was working in his life even though he didn’t see it at the time.. During his sophomore year in high school, a friend named Corey Small invited him to a youth activity in October 2006. At the activity, Bro. Sheldon noticed something was different about these teens. Therefore, Bro. Sheldon began attending Temple Baptist Church in El Dorado, KS the following Sunday.
While attending TBC, Bro. Sheldon realized he couldn’t make it to Heaven on his own. He needed a personal Savior. Thankfully, the pastor of Temple Baptist Church, Ron Jones, was faithful in preaching that Savior. Although it took a little time, Bro. Sheldon accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in March 2009 just two months before he graduated high school.
After graduation, Bro. Sheldon attended summer youth at Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in Sedalia, CO. While at camp, Bro. Sheldon surrendered his life to the Lord. Later that summer, Bro. Sheldon was able to be a sponsor for Junior Camp at SSYBC. Although the teaching and preaching was geared towards younger children, God called Bro. Sheldon into the ministry.
In August 2009, Bro. Sheldon enrolled at Heartland Baptist Bible College located in Oklahoma City, OK. During his four years at Heartland, he grew in his relationship with the Lord. Along the way, God allowed Bro. Sheldon to serve on the school’s Vacation Bible School for two summers. Through this ministry, he was able to see what God is doing in churches all across the Midwest.
Bro. Sheldon graduated from Heartland in May 2013. Shortly thereafter, he married his high school sweetheart, Rachel Gfeller on July 13, 2013. Two weeks after the wedding, Bro. Sheldon and Mrs. Rachel moved to Carrollton, TX to serve alongside the people of Central Park Baptist Church. The Smith’s are grateful for God allowing them to be a part of His Ministry and they are excited to see what God is going to do in the future.
